Cold turkey not good enough for quitting smoking
by Sarah HowardAn article in The Mirror shuns the idea of using cold turkey as a successful method to quit smoking despite many Scientists' recommending it as one of the best ways to kick the habit.
Tony Parsons, writing for the daily newspaper, instead argues that cold turkey is part and parcel of all ways to quit smoking, whether is be patches, gum, an inhaler or a ''season ticket to a cancer ward''.
Parsons comments that an individual has to truly want to give up and that the death of a close relative due to a smoking related illness often spurs a smoker into giving up. He describes cigarettes as ''wildly, physically addictive and anyone who has ever tried to stop knows that you would gladly sell your granny for one little suck on a Silk Cut or Marlboro''.
Parsons himself, after the death of his father, looked to hypnotherapy to help him with his deep seated desire to quit smoking and writes that he would recommend the method to anyone who wants to kick the habit.
Stop smoking hypnotherapy works by retraining a patient's conscious and subconscious mind, replacing habits with more healthy strategies to make a person feel more relaxed and confident. The typical cold turkey style mood swings, cravings and anxiety are replaced by more positive thoughts that over-ride these negative side effects, helping a person to quit the habit in a less painful way than going it alone.
