Hypnotherapy one way to "Get someone to quit smoking without hating you"
by William HobsonStop smoking hypnotherapy sessions from an expert can play a powerful role in helping someone overcome their addiction, says a recent article by parental care organisation Caring.com.
Written for MSN's health portal, the article explains the do's and don't's of getting a beloved family member to stop smoking. As well as recommending that you "keep it positive," "reward success" and to "wait for the right moment", writer Melanie Haiken stresses the importance of enlisting "expert help."
"Hypnosis isn't a magic spell that cures smoking, but it is a powerful tool that can help strengthen the resolution to quit, curb cravings and cement positive images and goals" writes Haiken.
"[Hypnotherapists] use hypnosis to help the smoker strengthen their resolution and stay focused on goals. In addition, hypotherapists can teach smokers self-hypnosis techniques to combat anxiety and stress, replacing smoking with a much more effective stress-relief tool."
She warns though, "that smokers are often dismissive of seeking expert advice" - which can be particularly problematic when trying to convince a senior family member.
