Research debunks myth that smoking helps weight loss
by Laura NinehamNew research has found that the nicotine in cigarette smoke could cause people to gain weight rather than lose it, according to a four year study by the University of Navarra in Spain.
Perhaps this new research will encourage people to break free from their nicotine addiction, with the help of stop smoking hypnotherapy.
The research has debunked the myth that smoking helps people lose weight by suppressing appetites, instead finding that it could cause people to put on more weight than people who have never smoked.
Data from over 7,500 people was analysed over four years. Researchers looked at age, sex, body mass and lifestyle issues and found that people who continued to smoke gained more weight than their non-smoking counterparts.
They also found that with regards to people who quit smoking, the amount of weight they gained was higher the more cigarettes smoked.
Whilst weight gain is a concern for anyone looking to stop smoking, hypnotherapy would help a person stop smoking and lose weight.
A hypnotherapist can help you understand why you smoke and deal with the triggers. Often stress is a reason people give for smoking, but hypnotherapy can address your experiences with stress and help with ways to deal with it. Some people say they smoke to help with their nerves. Others started smoking when they were young because they felt pressured to, which is a result of low self esteem. Some smoke simply out of habit, or because they are bored. Hypnotherapy can focus on all of these triggers and minimise how they negatively impact your health.
As the research shows, people are likely to gain weight whether they are a smoker or have recently quit. Combining efforts to stop smoking with hypnotherapy means your health with see the added benefits of losing weight whilst eliminating the toxic habit of smoking.
